We require a date of birth and TIN/SSN from U.S. citizens for a few reasons.
Firstly, it makes the ownership and/or control of your assets unambiguously clear.
Second, for certain bullion transactions, there may be tax reporting requirements where HAA must file a report on your behalf with the IRS. This requires a copy of your tax ID or social security number.
Finally, US regulations require that we establish the identity of all account holders – just like with a bank or brokerage account. Typically your date of birth, address, and tax information is sufficient for these purposes. However, note that at times we may need additional documentation such as a copy of your government issued ID or other identity documents. Once you apply for your account, we will reach out to you if any supporting documentation is required.
